Abstract: |
Erectile dysfunction is the most commonly reported sexual dysfunction. However, there are several others that may cause significant patient bother and receive less attention including anejaculation, orgasmic disorders, sexual incontinence, and loss of penile length. Great strides have been made in the treatment of erectile dysfunction in the past few decades. Penile rehabilitation is commonly used to help preserve erectile function after radical prostatectomy. Rehabilitation has more recently been examined to be utilized after radiation therapy. Researchers are still working on new therapeutics to find new ways to help prevent or fix the neural/vascular injuries related to erectile dysfunction. Anejaculation, orgasmic changes like dysorgasmia and sexual incontinence, can be very bothersome to the patient and should be discussed prior to surgery to obtain proper patient expectations. Changes in penile length likely occur from the same process behind the erectile dysfunction and studies have shown that rehabilitation preserves length. © 2016 Elsevier Ltd. All rights reserved. |
