Article Title: | Esophageal cancer: Treatment |
Abstract: | Esophageal cancer is an uncommon cancer in the U.S., although the incidence of adenocarcinomas of the lower esophagus and gastroesophageal junction has steadily increased since the 1970s. Globally, esophageal cancer (mostly squamous cell carcinomas) is endemic in parts of the world, such as East Asia. In this review article, we discuss chemotherapy options in the metastatic setting as well as targeted agents that are currently approved. We then focus on validated pre-, peri- or post-operative strategies for locally advanced disease, which include chemotherapy and/or chemoradiation. © 2014 Elsevier Inc. All rights reserved. |
