Radiation therapy as primary or neoadjuvant/adjuvant therapy for cancer has cured disease, prolonged survival, and improved the quality of life of many cancer patients. It is well known that there can be substantial adverse cardiovascular consequences to radiation therapy and therefore great effort has been expended to optimize efficacy while reducing the cardiovascular risk. Despite those efforts, cardio-oncology clinicians frequently care for cancer survivors treated with radiation therapy, at risk for or presenting with clinically manifest coronary artery disease. There is much to be learned from our collective experience in treating these patients. © Springer Nature Switzerland AG 2021 R. M. Steingart et al. (eds.). |
