Article/Chapter Title: | Instrumentation for positron emission tomography |
Abstract: | This chapter reviews the underlying physical principles of positron emission tomography (PET) and the design and operation of state-of-the-art PET scanners. Although now a mature technology, PET has undergone, and continues to undergo, steady advances in hardware and software and, as a result, ongoing improvements in performance and functionality. Recent noteworthy advances include improvements in detector technology and image reconstruction, implementation of time-of-flight (TOF) technology, and the introduction of PET/MRI (positron emission tomography/magnetic resonance imaging) scanners. © Springer Nature Switzerland AG 2022. |
