Article/Chapter Title: The role of HIPEC in the treatment of ovarian cancer
Abstract: Intraperitoneal chemotherapy has long been accepted as part of the standard of care for patients with advanced ovarian cancer. However, the utilization of heated intraperitoneal chemotherapy (HIPEC) at the time of cytoreductive surgery remains controversial. In this chapter we discuss the rationale for HIPEC in the setting of ovarian cancer. We also highlight the results of large retrospective and prospective studies reported within the last 10 years and the findings regarding toxicity, morbidity, and mortality associated with this treatment. © Springer Nature Switzerland AG 2021.
