Abstract: | To the Editor: Two letters, from Dr. Breitbart and Dr. Board (Aug. 21 issue),1,2 report on the development of movement disorders in patients treated with metoclopramide. Breitbart's letter describes a 45-year-old white man in whom an involuntary-movement disorder characteristic of tardive dyskinesia began three days after his seventh course of high-dose intravenous metoclopramide. This dyskinesia improved with the administration of diazepam but persisted for the next three months, until the patient died of testicular cancer. Dr. Board's reply to this letter cited a similar case: a 51-year-old woman in whom mild rocking movements of the pelvis developed during the eighth.... © 1987, Massachusetts Medical Society.
