Article/Chapter Title: Basal cell carcinoma
Abstract: Basal cell carcinoma (BCC) is the most common human malignancy. In the last decades, there is an estimated increase in the incidence of BCC by 3–10% per annum [1]. The average lifetime risk for Caucasians to develop BCC is approximately 30% [2, 3]. BCC most commonly occurs in adults, especially in the elderly population [4], although it may rarely be seen in children in the context of genetic diseases such as Gorlin syndrome. © Springer-Verlag Berlin Heidelberg 2012.
