Article Title: New 5'-phosphonates of dugar-modified nucleosides as inhibitors of HIV production
Abstract: A number of nucleoside 5'-H-phosphonates (nucleoside 5'-phosphites) and nucleoside 5'-methylphosphonates were synthesized, and their ability to inhibit the production of human immunodeficiency virus (HIV) in cell cultures was studied. Three compounds, the 5'-H-phosphonates of 3'-azido-2',3'-dideoxythymidine,* 3'-fluoro-2', 3'-dideoxythymidine, and 2' 3'-dideoxyadenosine, exhibited high activity with selectivity close to or higher than that of the corresponding nucleosides.
