Article Title: | Drug therapy for neuropathic pain |
Abstract: | Optimal therapy for neuropathic pain requires ongoing assessment and multiple treatment modalities, including pharmacotherapy. Pharmacologic interventions encompass traditional analgesic agents as well as a variety of agents with analgesic potential for certain types of pain or for specific patient subpopulations. Drug trials must be managed by a practitioner who has primary responsibility for titration, ongoing assessment, and monitoring for side effects and adverse reactions. The success of therapy is measured by pain relief and functional improvement. |
