Article Title: | An overview of hematopoietic stem cell transplantation |
Abstract: | This article provides an introduction to hematopoietic stem cell transplantation and is aimed at health care providers working within and outside the oncology realm. The stem cell transplantation process is outlined, spanning from pretransplant stem cell collection, through stem cell infusion and subsequent neutropenic period, to engraftment and the post-transplant clinical course. Because the stem cell transplantation process varies based on myriad patient-specific factors, key transplant variables also are discussed. This article concludes with a discussion of transplant complications and ongoing advancements in the field. © 2016 Elsevier Inc. |
