Abstract: (from the chapter) Reviews the prevalence of pain in cancer and AIDS, pain syndromes, and pain assessment issues, as well as pharmacologic and nonpharmacologic interventions for pain. Psychiatric interventions in the treatment of cancer and AIDS pain have become an integral part of a comprehensive approach to pain management and are highlighted in this review, including psychotherapy and cognitive-behavioral techniques.
