Article Title: Psychiatric aspects of cancer pain management
Abstract: Effective management of cancer pain in patients requires a multidisciplinary approach, enlisting expertise from a wide variety of clinical specialties including the utilization of psychiatric interventions for pain and associated psychological distress. This article reviews the multidimensional nature of cancer pain and the interrelationships between cancer pain and psychiatric/psychological factors. The prevalence of psychiatric disorders in cancer pain patients and their management are reviewed. The use of both pharmacologic and nonpharmacologic psychiatric interventions for cancer pain are reviewed.
