This chapter presents a series of case studies and multiple choice questions on radiotherapy for ductal carcinoma in situ (DCIS). One case study focuses on a 41-year-old woman with a core biopsy of new microcalcifications on her mammogram, yielding high-nuclear-grade DCIS. Her local breast surgeon recommends her to undertake the treatments wide excision or lumpectomy followed by externalbeam radiation and simple mastectomy. The patient decides to have a simple mastectomy as her surgical treatment for her DCIS. The final pathology report shows a 1.4 cm intermediate-high-grade DCIS; the lesion is unifocal, but DCIS is seen less than 1 mm from the posterior margin. © 2014 John Wiley and Sons, Inc. |
