Article Title: | Psychiatric dimensions of palliative care |
Abstract: | Managing psychiatric complications, such as depression, anxiety and delirium, and psychosocial issues, such as the desire for hastened death and assisted suicide, can test the limits of the most skilled palliative-care practitioner in treating patients with advanced or terminal illness. Neurologists caring for patients with advanced disease require competency in the assessment and management of psychiatric complications and comorbid illnesses and should use a multidisciplinary team approach that includes psychiatric expertise to assure optimal care for their patients at or near the end of life. |
