Article/Chapter Title: Integrative and object relations focused approaches to psychotherapy: Theoretical concerns and outcome research
Abstract: (from the chapter) The authors approach this chapter with the goal of presenting research that exists on those integrative psychotherapies that incorporate an object relations approach and have also acquired a more substantial identity in the field of psychotherapy integration. They discuss research conducted on the methods of psychotherapy that incorporate an object relations approach--outcome research, process research, and issues of assessment. Psychotherapy integration is discussed first from a theoretical and conceptual perspective, then from an approach perspective. Psychotherapy integration approaches that incorporate object relations theory addressed are those that fall under the domain of theoretical integration, including (a) cyclical psychodynamics; (b) assimilative psychodynamic psychotherapy; and (c) cognitive analytic therapy. The authors then focus on research that has been conducted in relation to them and on related research issues. (PsycINFO Database Record (c) 2012 APA, all rights reserved).
