Article Title: | Studying the infant's multisensory environment: A bridge between biology and psychology - Interview with Myron Hofer |
Abstract: | Myron Hofer has spent decades studying how the mother's behaviors and actions shape and regulate the physiological, neurophysiological, and psycho-logical functioning of her babies--specifically, her baby's brain and behavior. We need to learn more about the effects of sensorimotor stimulation to areas of the brain that regulate emotional development, language development, and other kinds of development. Genes don't cause behavior; they facilitate behavior. A good example is the very talented child who hardly has to be taught anything about the piano before she's playing. |
