Article/Chapter Title: | Fallopian tube cancer |
Abstract: | Primary malignant tumors of the fallopian tube are one of the rarest malignancies of the female genital tract. Although the etiology of fallopian tube cancer is unclear, it has reportedly been associated with nulliparity, chronic tubal inflammation, tubal endometriosis, and p53 overexpression. Fallopian tube cancer has also been described in women who have BRCA 1 and BRCA 2 germline mutations. Because the clinical behavior and histologic features of fallopian tube cancer are similar to those of ovarian cancer, management generally follows epithelial ovarian cancer principles. © 2006 John Wiley & Sons, Ltd. |
