Reviews the books, Cognitive-behavioral stress management for prostate cancer recovery: Facilitator guide edited by Frank J. Penedo, Michael H. Antoniand, and Neil Schneiderman (see record 2008-03681-000) and Cognitive-behavioral stress management for prostate cancer recovery: Workbook edited by Frank J. Penedo, Michael H. Antoni, and Neil Schneiderman (see record 2008-03683-000). This Facilitator Guide and Workbook are ready to- use guides for those who are interested in facilitating or taking part in a stress management group for men who have recently had prostate cancer surgery. These books describe a 10-week group program that addresses stress awareness, anxiety reduction, modification of negative thoughts, adaptive coping, increasing available social supports, enhancing communication skills, and promoting health maintenance. The Facilitator Guide provides appropriate information about prostate cancer in general as well as a good background on the issues that men with prostate cancer face after surgery. The Workbook is equally well organized and this program and the publication of these manuals offer an important and useful resource for professionals who work with prostate cancer patients and help them adjust to the difficulty of living with cancer as well as coping with the potentially upsetting side effects of prostate cancer surgery.
