Abstract: |
Endocervical adenocarcinoma in situ is a relatively common condition that may lead to or be associated with invasive adenocarcinoma and squamous cell carcinoma. There are a number of diagnostic problems concerning this entity, all of which are discussed in this chapter. Most of the differential diagnostic entities (proliferative endometrium, tuboendometrioid metaplasia, reparative changes, invasive adenocarcinoma, endometrioid adenocarcinoma and the like) are presented here along with recommendations for careful morphologic evaluation and ancillary diagnostic strategies. Although nearly all adenocarcinomas in situ of the endocervix are associated with high-risk HPV, some information about the extremely rare HPV-unassociated adenocarcinomas in situ is included. The entities are extensively illustrated and organized by case scenarios that highlight clinical, demographic, and morphological features. © Springer Nature Switzerland AG 2021. |
