Article/Chapter Title: | Image-guided prostate brachytherapy |
Abstract: | Interstitial prostate brachytherapy is a well-established treatment modality for the management of prostate cancer, with excellent long-term data on genitourinary and gastrointestinal toxicity and durable cancer control outcomes. Prostate brachytherapy is as effective as monotherapy in the setting of low- and favorable intermediate-risk cancer, and as a boost for dose escalation in unfavorable intermediate- and high-risk prostate cancer. In this chapter, we discuss the history, technical aspects, and outcomes for permanent and temporary implantation techniques. © 2019 John Wiley & Sons Ltd. |
