Staining and coverslipping Coverslipping are the final steps in tissue processing that are required before slide interpretation can be performed by the Mohs surgeon. Staining Staining is the process used to impart differential coloration onto cellular components in order to delineate different cells and tissue structures for microscopic inspection Inspection . Hematoxylin Hematoxylin and eosin Eosin (H&E) staining Staining is the most common stain used in Mohs Micrographic Surgery and is used to contrast nuclei and cytoplasm in blue and pink colors, and Toluidine Blue (T. Blue) Toluidine Blue (T. Blue) is an alternative stain that highlights tumor stroma. Coverslipping refers to the process of mounting a glass cover over a microscope slide to protect and preserve the tissue sections after staining Staining is complete. Staining and coverslipping Coverslipping are both essential steps that allow for accurate histologic examination and thus successful Mohs surgery. © The Author(s), Springer Nature Switzerland AG 2024.
