Abstract: Hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) is the fifth most common cancer in men and the eighth most common cancer in women worldwide. It is also the second leading cause of cancer death worldwide, with 780,000 deaths in 2018. Seventy-two percent of HCC cases occur in Asia, 10% in Europe, 8% in Africa, 5% in North America, and 5% in Latin America (Singal et al. in J Hepatol 72(2):250–261, 2020 [1]). © The Author(s), under exclusive license to Springer Nature Switzerland AG 2024.
