Management of the cancer patient has undergone a revolution over the last 40 years and is continuing to evolve. Multidisciplinary care, utilizing various combinations of the available treatment modalities, such as surgery, radiotherapy, and chemotherapy, is now widely accepted as the standard of care. Treatment plans are usually determined through multidisciplinary meetings involving all treating clinicians, and imaging has an essential role in staging patients, facilitating stratification of patients, and personalization of cancer care. Advances in molecular biology and availability of “omic” information are also significantly impacting management of cancer patients, influencing both the type and timing of treatment, as well as generating novel therapies. This is resulting in increased tailoring of management for specific patients and personalization of care. © 2023 Elsevier Inc. All rights reserved. |
