Article/Chapter Title: Inflammatory, reactive, and infectious conditions of the breast
Abstract: Inflammatory, reactive, and infectious conditions are relatively uncommon benign lesions found in core biopsies of the breast. In some instances, core biopsy of an inflammatory lesion is necessary to exclude a malignant process, as these lesions can sometimes simulate malignancy both clinically and on imaging. This chapter will review the most common inflammatory and reactive processes that will be seen in a needle core breast biopsy. Pertinent clinical, radiographic, and histopathologic features of each lesion will be reviewed. The differential diagnoses will be discussed, which will include rare entities that should be kept in mind when interpreting biopsies of such lesions. © The Editor(s) (if applicable) and The Author(s), under exclusive license to Springer Nature Switzerland AG 2022.
