Article/Chapter Title: Hepatic tumors in childhood
Abstract: Hepatic tumors are the third most common intra-abdominal tumors and constitute approximately 2% of all pediatric tumors. Third of these are benign tumors and with increased antenatal and postnatal ultrasound surveillance are being detected more frequently. The primary malignant tumors of the liver such as hepatoblastoma and hepatocellular carcinoma are best managed by surgical resection which can be facilitated by neoadjuvant chemotherapy. With the increasing understanding of malignant tumors, a large survival benefit has been reported when metastatic lesions to the liver are also surgically removed in selected tumors, such as Wilms' tumor. © Springer Nature Switzerland AG 2023.
