Article/Chapter Title: Nursing assessment
Abstract: A thorough pre-procedural patient evaluation promotes patient comfort and safety prior to any transradial access case in interventional radiology. Effective communication by health staff is key for guiding a patient’s expectations about an upcoming procedure and for improving overall patient satisfaction. The process of informed consent provides patients with autonomy over their health and with further understanding about the risks and benefits that are specific to procedures utilizing a radial access approach. Patients can be informed that transradial access has a reduced rate of complications when compared to transfemoral access. It is important to screen a patient’s medical history, physical exam, and medication reconciliation for particular details that may influence the appropriateness criteria for a radial access approach. © Springer Nature Switzerland AG 2022.
