Abstract: | Mental health practitioners and clinical investigators face special ethical challenges when working with older adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities (IDD). This chapter discussed these challenges in relation to treatment recommendations for psychopharmacological interventions. The limited cognitive and emotional characteristics of ageing persons with IDD and their relative lack of legal status and social power make them particularly vulnerable to misuse of these drugs and to their corresponding risks. © Springer Nature Switzerland AG 2021.
