Article/Chapter Title: Adolescent and young adult cancer survivors
Abstract: A cancer diagnosis during adolescence or young adulthood (AYA; defined as ages 15-39) can result in various medical and psychosocial needs unique to this age group. The extant literature has frequently combined AYAs with either survivors of childhood cancer or those who are older at the time of diagnosis. As a result, our understanding of AYAs is still in a nascent and burgeoning phase. In this chapter, we review the physical well-being, psychosocial outcomes, and survivorship care for survivors of cancer diagnosed during the AYA period. Additionally, we examine cancer care among underserved AYAs as well as specific interventions tailored to AYA survivors. Lastly, this chapter will highlight areas for future research and clinical practice. (PsycInfo Database Record (c) 2022 APA, all rights reserved)
