Article/Chapter Title: Postoperative radioactive iodine ablation and treatment of differentiated thyroid cancer
Abstract: The use of radioactive iodine (RAI) therapy in the postoperative management of patients with differentiated thyroid cancer (DTC) is a highly controversial topic. The controversy lies in the proper selection of patients that are most likely to benefit from the therapy both in the short and long term. In this chapter, we explore in detail current positions regarding RAI therapy use in the postoperative setting and review the use of risk assessment models in properly selecting the patients most likely to benefit from therapy. © 2021 Elsevier Inc.
