The nonparametric analysis of the stathmokinetic experiment presented in this paper is an extension of procedures by Jagers and Staudte. The method allows one to estimate, under very general assumptions, the first two moments of the residence time in successive cell cycle phases. Approximate formulae for the mean square errors of the estimates are derived. Applications include experimental stathmokinetic data for various cell lines, both analyzed and not analyzed previously. Comparison proves that the nonparametric method is very accurate whenever it can be applied. Results of analysis of the stathmokinetic data are also discussed from the viewpoint of the variability of the cell cycle generation time. © 1985. |
