Abstract: |
Molecules and Medicine, a book by Elias J. Corey, Barbara Czakó, and László Kürti provides informational value and serve to organize progress in its field, which is drug discovery and molecular medicine. The book succeeds in collecting a wide range of medical phenomenology extending from anti-aids strategies and treatments to reproductive medicine. Part I of the book begins with an attempt to relay the principles of organic chemistry, and particularly of structural organic chemistry. Issue such as nomenclature, a rough description of hybridizations, bonding and a review of functional group are provided. The infectious diseases section is nicely subdivided among indications that call for antibiotics, antiviral agents, and anti-fungal agents. The book has high information retrieval value, as readers can search by common name, technical name, or trade name, or any drug name. |
