Intended for use by students and professionals of oncology nursing, medicine, and pharmacology, this pocket-size handbook provides quick and easy access to information on the management of cancer patients undergoing chemotherapy and biotherapy. Chapters are organized into three parts. Part one covers the following topics: basic aspects of chemotherapy; biologic response modifiers and biologic therapy; drug development and the clinical trials system; the nursing process in patient education; and guidelines for the safe and effective handling, assessment, and management of side effects and toxicities of chemotherapeutic agents. A bibliography is provided at the end of this section. Part two contains alphabetically arranged monographs on chemotherapeutic agents, biologic response modifiers, and chemoprotectants. This segment includes details of drug indications, metabolism, dosage ranges, methods of administration, preparation and stability, interactions, side effects, and toxicities. The concluding part examines the indications and clinical considerations of frequently used combination regimens. A subject index, tables for quick retrieval of information, and appendices are incorporated into the text. |
