Article Title: Infectious complications in patients with HIV infection
Abstract: Opportunistic infections remain the hallmark of AIDS. Despite advances in development treatments aimed at HIV and the underlying immunologic defect, the current management of AIDS patients is principally the prevention, diagnosis and treatment of these infections. In addition, HIV infection and its associated immunologic abnormalities are having a widening impact on the epidemiology, clinical course, diagnosis and treatment of other major infectious diseases, including tuberculosis and syphilis. It must be anticipated that this interaction will continue to occur with other infections which are endemic in different areas of the world.
