Article Title: | Safe sushi |
Abstract: | To the Editor: Over the past decade in the United States, there has been a large increase in the consumption of raw fish, as served in Japanese-style sushi restaurants. The article by Wittner et al. (April 27 issue)1 and the accompanying editorial by Schantz2 concerning the risk of worm infection will most certainly have a dampening effect on the spreading popularity of this particular delicacy. Although I do not wish to suggest that there are no risks involved in eating sushi, I would like to offer some encouragement to those who might be frightened from ever again partaking of these. © 1989, Massachusetts Medical Society.
