Article Title: Psychosocial oncology research
Abstract: In recent years, increased attention has been paid to psychosocial aspects of cancer treatment, recovery and survivorship because oncology health professionals have observed that psychological and social variables can influence the medical outcomes and quality of life of cancer patients. A number of theoretical and conceptual frameworks which might guide research in this field are suggested. Next, several methodological issues of concern to psychosocial oncology researchers are examined. This is followed by a discussion of recent important findings from psychosocial oncology research and of their implications for social work practice. Finally, recommendations for future research in the field are offered. © 1990 Taylor & Francis Group, LLC.
