Article/Chapter Title: Suicide
Abstract: (create) Unfortunately, the assessment and identification of those individuals at risk for suicide continues to remain a vital topic for clinicians working with cancer patients, as individuals with cancer are at increased risk for suicidal ideation and behavior when compared to the general population and other medically ill populations. Suicidal thoughts and behaviors in cancer patients are associated with a number of psychosocial and physical risk factors. This chapter will describe suicidality in cancer, prevalence rates, risk factors, legal and ethical issues in assisted suicide, and will provide clinical guidelines for assessment and intervention.
