Article/Chapter Title: Salivary gland neoplasms
Abstract: INTRODUCTION The major and minor salivary glands of the head and neck can give rise to a diverse group of both benign and malignant neoplasms. Because of the low incidence, large number of different histologic subtypes (1), variety of potential sites, and the need for extended follow-up, an individual clinician is unlikely to accumulate significant personal experience with most types of salivary neoplasms. In this chapter, the etiology, incidence, pathology, and presentation of salivary tumors will first be reviewed. Treatment options and results will then be discussed, in an effort to provide insight into these varied and challenging neoplasms. © 2009 by Taylor & Francis Group, LLC.
