Abstract: Pregnancy and management of the patient in the peripartum period can present unique settings and challenges involving the blood bank and transfusion service. From maternal alloimmunization and hemolytic disease of the fetus and newborn, to management of thrombocytopenia and postpartum hemorrhage, the blood bank and transfusion service can help to provide diagnostic and therapeutic resources. This chapter focuses on the role of transfusion medicine in these prenatal and obstetric patients. © 2018 Elsevier Inc. All rights reserved.
