Article Title: Bartonella infections
Abstract: The spectrum of diseases caused by members of the genus Bartonella is expanding. In addition to bartonellosis and trench fever, it now includes diseases caused by bacteria formerly classified in the genus Rochalimaea: bacteremia, bacillary angiomatosis and peliosis, cat-scratch disease, and endocarditis. Infections caused by Bartonella species are often associated with animal and arthropod vectors. These diseases are now being described in immunocompromised hosts. Laboratory diagnosis of infections with Bartonella requires the use of special stains and culture methods.
