Abstract: Purpose: The last 25 years of review of the treatment of patients with malignant pelvic disease by ureteroileal conduit diversion with or without a radical pelvic operation has shown a progressive decrease in the initially high operative mortality. In an attempt to reduce further surgical morbidity and mortality, construction of the ureteroileal conduit as the first-stage treatment, followed by a cystectomy after recovery from the urinary diversion, had been suggested. We analyzed the experience at Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center with the morbidity and mortality of ureteroileal conduit performed concurrently with a radical cystectomy for the treatment of bladder cancer.Copyright (c) 1997 by W.B.
