Article Title: | Renal salt wasting syndrome in a patient receiving cisplatin chemotherapy for metastatic testicular cancer: A case report |
Abstract: | Cisplatin is one of the most widely used chemotherapy agents in treating testicular cancer, with a 90% cure rate. A common side effect associated with the administration of cisplatin is nephrotoxicity, causing direct damage to the nephron. This can lead to a rare side effect called renal salt wasting syndrome (RSWS). When RSWS occurs, damage to the kidneys causes inadequate sodium and water reabsorption, leading to excessive urine output and an increase in urine sodium. A case of a patient with metastatic testicular cancer who presented with RSWS after receiving one cycle of cisplatin-based chemotherapy is presented here. This article provides an introduction to the medical management used to treat his symptoms. |
