Abstract: The majority of western patients diagnosed with gastric cancer present with advanced stages of disease. Consequently, overall survival results remain quite poor for this disease. Modem developments in fiberoptic laparoscopy have allowed for significant improvements in our ability to more appropriately manage these patients. This abstract focuses on our experience with laparoscopy in the management of gastric cancer patients and provides preliminary data using laparoscopic ultrasonography in the T staging of patients with adenocarcinoma of the stomach.
