Article Title: Medical care in adult survivors of childhood cancer: Data from the Childhood Cancer Survivor Study (CCSS)
Abstract: Many adult survivors of childhood cancer do not receive regular medical care focused on the long-term risks arising from their prior therapy. A minority of at-risk survivors undergo surveillance for cardiac dysfunction and secondary breast cancers. Survivors who receive care in a community setting are particularly vulnerable to not receiving risk-based care or recommended screening tests. Given that the population of childhood cancer survivors is rapidly expanding, it is imperative that efforts be focused on educating both survivors and their healthcare providers about the importance of regular, risk-based medical care.
