Title: Respiratory motion-induced treatment uncertainties
Conference Title: 6th International Conference on Medical Physics
Abstract: This article reviews recent developments in the measurement and control of respiratory motion-induced uncertainty in radiation treatments. Two different strategies have evolved to reduce the effect of respiratory motion: respiration gating of the linear accelerator while the patient breathes freely, and controlled patient breathing. Recently some of these techniques have seen clinical application in disease sites in the thorax and upper abdomen. The potential dosimetric benefits, implementation and clinical experience with these techniques are discussed.
