Abstract: Patients with advanced epithelial ovarian cancer are defined as having Stage III and Stage IV disease. Patients who are in clinical complete remission and are candidates for additional therapy should undergo second-look surgical reassessment. The desired goal of this surgery is determination of whether or not there is gross disease in the abdomen. only patients with disease thought to be resectable at laparoscopy need undergo a laparotomy. All patients with advanced disease in complete surgical remission (microscopic positive and microscopic negative) will benefit from additional therapy. The major challenge in the treatment of epithelial ovarian cancer is to find a consolidation therapy that win eradicate microscopic residual disease. Such a discovery would virtually double the survival of patients with advanced epithelial ovarian cancer.
