Article/Chapter Title: Building a responsible conduct of research program to sustain an institutional culture of research integrity and compliance
Abstract: (from the chapter) The concept of responsible conduct of research (RCR) training as a necessary component of any research enterprise began to emerge in the late 1980s when the National Institutes of Health (NIH) introduced its first requirement for instruction on the subject. Previously, accredited courses in biomedical or research ethics were widely offered to medical and graduate students, but RCR training was a relatively new idea; with the new NIH requirement, institutions began to scramble to get programs in place to meet agency guidelines.
