Article/Chapter Title: Neuroendocrine tumors
Abstract: This chapter presents six case studies on neuroendocrine tumors (NETs). One case study deals with a 56-year-old female with small bowel and well-differentiated NET with metastasis to the liver. She had previously profuse diarrhea and flushing. She was found to have a positive somatostatin scintigraphy scan (Octreoscan) and was started on octreotide with resolution of her symptoms. The case study suggests that either contrast-enhanced computed tomography (CT) scan or magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) of the abdomen and pelvis is the most appropriate imaging modality for the patient. Both CT scans and magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) scans are excellent means of following patients with NET, as they are both sensitive and specific for NET involvement. © 2014 John Wiley and Sons, Inc.
