Abstract: (Matrix presented) An efficient and highly stereocontrolled approach to the 8,10-dimethyl anti-syn-anti-perhydrophenanthrene carbon skeleton starting with the Wieland-Miescher ketone is described. The approach centers on a Diels-Alder-angular methylation-deoxygenation sequence.
