Abstract: Depression is seen in many cancer patients. It is an especially important issue in palliative care, as depression can be more common in patients who are at the end of life. Accurate assessment and treatment can have a powerful impact on improving a patient's quality of life. This article reviews the definition and the differential diagnosis of depression in cancer patients. It then focuses on some of the treatment options available, including pharmacotherapy and psychotherapy.
