Article/Chapter Title: Biopsy of soft tissue masses
Abstract: The most definitive diagnostic procedure for most musculoskeletal tumors is a biopsy. This can be accomplished with fine needle aspiration (FNA), a trochar (or cutting needle), open incisional biopsy, or open excisional biopsy. It is critical to define how the biopsy should be performed in order to maximize diagnostic accuracy and minimize morbidity. This chapter aims to summarize the best available evidence in the literature in order to appropriately direct soft-tissue sarcoma biopsy guidelines. © 2012 Blackwell Publishing Ltd.
